Stadium Development

Nottingham Forest have created an email address that you can contact with your views about the planned stadium development. Please email them your views: newstadium@nottinghamforest.co.uk

Rushcliffe residents were only notified about the plan to build a stadium and 4,500 houses via the local media. There was no prior consultation about this decision and it has been presented as something that must and will happen.

stadiumThe way the development was announced meant that building 4,500 houses and a stadium on greenbelt land has been linked to England's 2018 World Cup bid. We urge you to think about this proposition rationally and not to be taken in by the City Council's marketing.

Clearly we are supportive of England's bid to be the host nation and are supportive of Nottingham hosting matches. It is simply not the case that anyone questioning the choice of location is against the World Cup bid.

Those in oppostion to the location of the stadium are presented as anti Nottingham when in fact the long term future of Nottinghamshire is not best served by this alarming precedent. People live and work in the threatened area and the City Council has not even let them know about its plans.

If it wasn't for the glamour of the World Cup being tagged onto this development how would you feel about development on Rushcliffe's countryside and the loss of green belt?

Is the glamour of the World Cup being evoked to mask the reality of a cold and considered financial decision by the City Council? Do you think they care more about the World Cup or about selling their land to developers? What profit will the City Council make from this deal? If Forest do relocate here will the City Ground be sold for development too?

The area supports a variety of wildlife and is in use as agricultural land. Do we need to sacrifice this site when there are brown field alternatives that have not even been considered?

The City Ground is a big part of Nottingham's proud sporting heritage and has been home to Nottingham Forest Football Club since 1898. Will this just be cast aside?

Rather than misleading ourselves that we will be leaving a sporting legacy for our children we risk leaving a legacy disrespectful of our heritage. A legacy of environmental irresponsibilty; of disregard for Nottinghamshire's countryside. Quick money from developers and big profits being prioritised above our local ecology.
